Title
Photovoltaic Powered Highway Camera Surveillance System
Abstract
Solar energy is now increasingly used to power appliances or even electric cars. A sector of the transportation industry provides various highway safety equipment requiring various forms of electrical power to operate. One such device is a closed circuit television system that provides surveillance capabilities in highways. This television system and other transportation devices can be powered by photovoltaic (PV) power system. To demonstrate this, a PV system was designed and constructed to power a camera surveillance system on an expressway in Florida. From this project it was found that a PV system is a viable source of cost-effective, reliable power.
