Title
Brief historical introduction to wavelet transforms
Abstract
This paper presents a historical development of wavelet transforms, Gabor transforms and their myriad of mathematical, physical, medical, biological, and engineering applications. The use of Fourier transforms and the Hilbert space formalism in the wavelet transform analysis is briefly discussed. Special emphasis is given to the discovery of multiresolution analysis and its remarkable impact on the development of the theory and applications of wavelets and new computational algorithms in numerical analysis. © 1998 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
