Title
Observations and recommendations of a simulated airport emergency response management exercise
Abstract
An Emergency Response Mass Casualty exercise was conducted at the Orlando International Airport in Orlando, FL, to provide assistance and immediate care for the wounded as well as initial diagnosis for other responding agencies. The exercise simulated the aborted takeoff, and subsequent collision, of a large commercial aircraft with a busy highway. It focused on the coordination of efforts between the airport's rescue crews and off-site rescue agencies. Experts were then asked to comment on the exercise's fidelity and provide recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of future exercises.
