Title
Florida'S Alternative Energy Banner Center For Solar Energy Education And Training
Abstract
This paper presents a new concept in training programs for alternative energy technologies being conducted in Florida called the Employ Florida Alternative Energy Banner Center. The training program will be conducted by the Florida Solar Energy Center along with six Florida partners. The Florida Banner Centers were developed to enhance Florida's economic development efforts by providing training for workers (entry, advanced and skills upgrades) in high value industries caused by changes in markets or technologies. The Banner Center concept requires a collaborative effort between recognized experts in the selected industry, the educational providers, representatives from the industry and/or industry associations, the local business development council and the regional workforce board. The developed training programs must be industry driven. The Alternative Energy Banner Center will initially focus on the areas of solar thermal and photovoltaics with the potential to expand into biofuels.
