Title
Florida'S Alternative Energy Banner Center - First Year Results
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present the results from the first year's activities for a new Florida workforce development training Center called the Florida Alternative Energy Banner Center. In February 2008, Workforce Florida, Inc. established the Alternative Energy Banner Center at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). The Alternative Energy Banner Center is designed as a partnership of universities, community colleges, technical institutes, workforce agencies, utilities and industries dedicated to training workers in alternative energy technologies. The Center initially focused on photovoltaic and solar water heating technologies because these two areas offer the greatest potential for creating new jobs. The goal of the Alternative Energy Banner Center is to create a well-trained workforce through trainthe- trainer programs for its education partners: Florida's community colleges and vocational-technical institutes. Once trained, faculty from the partner institutions will offer training to their students. In the next stages of the Center's development, the train-the trainer programs will be extended to at least 12 or more Florida community colleges and vocational-tech schools.
