Title
168 Channels × 6 Gb/S (1 Tb/S Aggregate) From A Multiwavelength Modelocked Semiconductor Laser
Abstract
The generation of 168 independent, synchronized return-to-zero (RZ) pulse trains operating at Gb/s was demonstrated using a multiwavelength modelocked semiconductor diode laser. The 168 WDM channels were spread over 20 nm with a channel separation of approximately 50 GHz. The broad laser spectrum was enabled by the transient unsaturated gain associated with semiconductor laser mode locking along with the used of an intracavity spectral shaper. The 750 Mb/ s optical signal was forwarded through a 1x8 optical time division multiplexer (OTDM) to increase the single channel bit rate to 6 Gb/s.
