Title
A Generalized Class Of Nonlinear Rossby Localized Structures In Geophysical Fluid Flows
Abstract
A generalized class of nonlinear localized Rossby structures generated by nonlinear variations in the Coriolis parameter (the so-called γ-effect) and nonuniform zonal-flow shear is explored within the framework of the Charney-Hasegawa-Mima equation. A generalized class of solitary waves becomes possible when both the quadratic and cubic nonlinearities associated with nonlinear variations in the Coriolis parameter and nonuniformities in zonal-flow shear are included to compensate the dispersive decay due to Rossby wave radiation. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
