Title
High-Dynamic-Range Still-Image Encoding In Jpeg 2000
Abstract
A JPEG 2000-based lossy image compression scheme for high-dynamic-range (HDR) images of all dynamic ranges is proposed. As compared to other lossy HDR compression schemes, the wavelet-based approach can reach the same visual quality at a much lower bit rate. The approach allows a minimum coding error in the logarithm domain with any bit rate budget. The actual dynamic range and the maximum bit depth of the JPEG 2000 implementation limits the quantization error. The method used provides a simple, straightforward and efficient lossy HDR encoding.
