Abstract
During the 2002 summer term the authors began development of a new approach to the teaching of Physical Science, a general education course typically found in the curricula of nearly every college and university. This new approach, called Physical Science - Physics in Films, uses popular movies to illustrate physical principles, analyzing individual scenes against the background of the fundamental physical laws. Earlier papers in EISTA 03 and EISTA 04 [1,2] reported on several aspects of the course development and its success in improving student performance. In this paper we describe a new dimension being implemented for the course this summer and fall Employing the potential of the electronic media and the internet, the UCF Physics Department will begin an ambitious project to offer Physics in Films online. Discussed will be the outline of how such a course is designed, advantages and potential barriers to giving a science course online, and an example of an online module in physical science.
