Title
The Effect Of Emerging Technologies On The Need For A Flexible Classroom Layout And Design
Abstract
It is essential to have a flexible classroom design that can be used in a variety of ways to accommodate the different needs for mid-sized classes, training, multi-group breakout sessions and individual monitoring. The classroom, may be used for streaming, on line training, and meetings. In the fall of 2004 the National Science Foundation agreed to initiate the existence of the e-design center at the University of Central Florida. The idea of a flexible classroom, that can be used for multi-academic needs became a necessity for the center. The Industrial Engineering Department started to look for a futuristic design for such a classroom. This paper explains the challenges for such a flexible classroom and some of the work that was done by other universities towards achieving similar goals. In this paper a classroom, design is suggested to accommodate the different needed capabilities.
