Title
Optical Generation And Sideband Injection Locking Of Tunable 11-120 Ghz Microwave/Millimetre Signals
Abstract
An extremely wide tuning range, from 11 to 120 GHz, of optically-generated radio frequency/microwave/millimeter-wave signals was achieved from two-section gain-coupled distributed feedback (DFB) lasers. The wide tuning range is attributed to the long section lengths of the device and its low κ value. Sideband injection locking of these signals leads to a sub-Hertz linewidth. The power spectral density (PSD) of the phase noise was measured for a 40 GHz locked self-pulsation, and the phase noise power density of -107 dB rad2/Hz was reached at an offset of 3.5 MHz.
