Title
A Micro Spr (Surface Plasmon Resonance) Sensor With An Integrated Photodetector
Keywords
Integrated optics; Photodetector; Polymer waveguide; SPR sensor
Abstract
SPR (surface plasmon resonance) sensors have been widely used in chemistry and biology to study binding affinity and kinetics. In this work, we report a novel integrated approach to a SPR sensor. Our sensor consists of a polymer waveguide and a MSM (metal-semiconductor-metal) photodetector on a GaAs substrate. This planar integration enables the direct opto-electric signal conversion without resorting to a separate bulk optical component and facilitates further integration of a light source. We have designed, fabricated and tested a micro SPR sensor with an integrated MSM photodetector. We have verified the functionality of a waveguide-based SPR sensor and a MSM photodetector in this first phase investigation. © 2006 Society for Chemistry and Micro-Nano Systems.
