Title
Polyurethane Nanocomposite Coatings With Enhanced Mechanical And Thermal Properties
Abstract
This paper examines thin film coatings used to enhance the functionality of a substrate. In recent years, polymer nanocomposite coatings have aroused tremendous attention due to their advantage of high performance, easy fabricating, low cost, and lightweight. In this study, polyurethane nanocomposite coatings with tailored functionality have been developed by a high speed spraying process. Several kinds of nanoparticles have been used in order to achieve the multifunctional performance. The polymer nanocomposites thin film was coated on the natural leather as a protection layer. A systematic evaluation of the performance of polymer nanocomposite coatings has been conducted. The results show that the performances of coatings such as wear resistance, flexing crack resistance, and thermal stability have been significantly enhanced by the addition of nanoparticles. Especially, the wear resistance of the nanocoatings was improved as much as 225% compared with the control sample.
