Status Epilepticus
Abstract
Scenario overview A 31-year-old obese woman is brought in by the EMS for generalized tonic-clonic seizures to the ED. EMS were called to a coffee shop where witnesses said patient was seen reading a book, fell to her right side on the chair and started to shake all over and foam at the mouth. She was placed on NRB by BLS and transferred to ED. En route, she had second seizure lasting 1 minute without return to baseline. Time from onset of first seizure to arrival in the ED is 10 minutes. Patient will continue to seize in the ED, requiring the team to recognize and manage status epilepticus. Teaching objectives/discussion points Clinical and medical management.
