Abstract
A compact wearable bent slot antenna with a compact electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure for wireless body area network is presented in this paper. The antenna resonates in the 2.45 GHz Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) band. The antenna was simulated on a jean fabric. The EBG surface limits the back radiation enabling the antenna to be used for wearable applications. The specific absorption rate in a multilayer human body model was evaluated for this antenna with and without the EBG structure. The compact structure and reduced specific absorption rate values obtained makes it an ideal choice for wearable applications.
