Abstract
We develop an experimentally validated numerical simulation model to characterize the electro-optic properties of uniform standing helix (USH) cholesteric liquid crystal displays. Based on the proposed numerical model, the viewing angle properties are analyzed by taking the optical polarization rotation effect into consideration. Furthermore, we propose two compensation schemes to widen the viewing angle of an USH display and achieve contrast ratio >100:1 over 80° viewing cone.
