Strategy Description
Kick off an online course with an asynchronous goal-setting icebreaker where students can form community and intentional goals for the course. This activity can be extended with goal progress check-ins throughout the semester for continued engagement.
About the Author
Emily Franklin is an instructional designer at the University of Central Florida. As an instructional designer, she assists faculty with the design and development of online and blended courses. She earned an MA in TESOL and a BA in English from Wright State University and has worked in higher education since 2008 at universities in the USA and abroad. She is an advocate for active student engagement, quality assessments, and effective use of technology in online instruction and learning.
