Enhancing Tourism Functions of Beijing Folklore Villages: Issues and Approaches
Keywords

Abstract
The development of folklore villages has been adopted as the standard mode for the growth of folklore tourism in Beijing. The focus of extant literature on folklore tourism has been on the macroscopic development of tourism industry and research on the tourism functions of folklore villages as well as the results of their construction is scarce and fragmented. The paper, using Gunn’s model on tourism functional system, firstly provides an analysis of the current functions of folklore tourism from three aspects of supply side: accommodations, leisure activities and tourism merchandise and then proposes models for enhancing the tourism functions of folklore villages through both vertical product integration and horizontal product bundling based on Maslow’s needs theory and ERG theory. Discussions and implications are also provided regarding the promotion of folklore tourism through upgrading the tourism functions of folklore villages in Beijing.
