Postcard of New York Avenue, DeLand, Florida. The postcard shows two horse carriages, one moving towards the viewer, and one away. Trees line either side of the street, and a woman in turn of the century clothing walks on the sidewalk. On the back is printed "De Land Florida. New York Avenue, North. A good view of the delightfully shaded street in the residential part of the city. Noted for its most salubrious climate and its healthfulness, as well as for the enterprise, intelligence and high character of its people. The city has a general air of prosperity, which is heightened by its numerous tasteful homes." A handwritten note adds "small church at right is the first Catholic church in DeLand, St. Peters."

The little octagonal building housed thepump which pumped water to [the] tank in [the] tower of Elizabeth Hall until city water was brought to DeLand." Another handwritten note, apparently by the original purchaser, reads "this is the principal one of the buildings. We have our class rooms, museums of geology, nat. history, zoology, etc, in here. Also we have the chapel endowed by Mr. Stetson with an immense and beautiful organ..."
