Description

More than 100 students gather with their teachers on the campus of St.Luke's School, c. 1963. During the summer months, the school was used for Vacation Bible School, which was open to all children in the community. Principal, Elmer Bellhorn, organized the VBS program and was assisted by many of the school's regular teachers, as well as community volunteers. It should be noted that offering "summer church school" had been a tradition of St. Luke's Lutheran Church from the earliest years of its existence. In the early decades, it served to teach the church's own young members the catechism (in the Slovak language. In later years, VBS also served as an "outreach program" to the community.
