Welcome to the HASTAC 2017 site!
HASTAC 2017 was hosted by the Florida Digital Humanities Consortium in Orlando, Florida, November 3-4, 2017. The conference was held at University of Central Florida’s main campus.
Plenary speakers included Purdom Lindblad, Assistant Director of Innovation and Learning at MITH, Tressie McMillan Cottom, assistant professor of sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University, and T-Kay Sangwand, librarian for UCLA’s Digital Library Program. The panel was moderated by Anastasia Salter, assistant professor of Digital Media at the University of Central Florida. Saturday’s final session featured HASTAC’s own Cathy N. Davidson, from CUNY. The sessions surrounding these included roundtables, soapbox talks, demos, maker sessions, workshops, media art projects, and posters.
HASTAC leadership has stated that HASTAC is “committed to advancing equity, inclusion, innovation, and interdisciplinarity in higher education…[and] celebrates the creative and powerful thinking that results when we work together across all kinds of difference” (click here for the full post). In order to share some of the “creative and powerful thinking” from HASTAC 2017, we invite you to view our Hack the Abstract page, which features short video recordings of speakers sharing the abstracts for their presentations. In addition, you can find the opening and closing plenaries and other videos and photos on the HASTAC 2017 Event Photos and Videos page.
It was a pleasure to host HASTAC 2017, and we hope you enjoy revisiting the conference (or experiencing it for the first time!) on the HASTAC 2017 site.
