Photo Description

The large dark region on the right is the Syrtis Major, the so-called "Great Bog." The lower right is the region of the Deltoton Sinus and the east end of the Sabaeus Sinus. Many craters can be seen. Particularly striking is the immense double crater in the lower right quadrant. The diameter of the outer ring of this figure is 390 kilometers (240 statute miles). A grid of black reference dots and some electronic noise remain to be removed by further computer processing.
