    Photo Description

MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER, ALA. This excellent web was constructed by the spider Anita after almost three weeks in her cage aboard the Skylab space station. Photographs of this and other webs are being analyzed and compared with webs built by Arabella prior to her Skylab flight. These webs are being studied by Judith Miles of Lexington, Mass., the Student Investigator for Skylab Student Experiment ED-52, Web Formation in Zero Gravity. The web characteristics being compared by Judith Miles include such things as the number of spirals, the number of radials, angles between radials, distance between spirals, area of the web hub, area of the web catching surface, as well as the physical characteristics of the returned web material. The information obtained from these analyses will be used to infer changes in the motor-sensory and neuro-sensory performances of the spiders in zero gravity.
