MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER, Ala. X-ray photograph of the Sun produced by Apollo Telescope Mount Experiment SO56 on Aug. 16, 1973, at 15:20 GMT. This photograph was taken through a thin titanium filter which transmits soft X-rays. The ten-minute exposure reveals structure in the quiet Sun X-ray emission. The dark features in the center of the disk and on the east limb are coronal holes. Principal investigator on the SO56 is James E. Milligan of the NASA-Marshall Space Flight Center.
