Description/Abstract

Currently in its second year and serving 150 students, UROP at FSU offers a rare early introduction to the comprehensive research process for first- and second-year students. Modeled after UROP at the University of Michigan, UROP at FSU is a three-pronged program. UROP participants a) serve as research assistants for faculty mentors, b) attend a year-long, one-credit, peer-taught colloquium, and c) present a poster of their research at the Spring Symposium. Assessment from the first year suggests the program has been successful, particularly in terms of skill development and interest in continuing to participate in research-intensive experiences.
