Description/Abstract
Undergraduate research is undergraduate students learning by doing which is the pinnacle of active learning. While students at Valencia College regularly engage in research projects, there are limitations preventing them from analyzing the data fully. On the other hand, introductory statistics students have limited access to meaningful real life data analysis experiences. This work matches research students, under the supervision of their faculty mentor, with introductory statistics classes in a unique two-semester collaborative data analysis experience. By matching these statistics students with research students, we have begun to create a community of learners through these college-wide interdisciplinary partnerships to maximize student learning for all. This work was supported by the Raymer F. Maguire Jr. Endowed Chair in Mathematics which funds a learning experience supporting the college’s mission, vision, and values and has a connection to student learning in Mathematics.
