Confirmation Day: May 19,1940
The confirmation class of eight students, with Pastor Stephen M. Tuhy, on the south side of the new brick church on May 19, 1940. This was the first Confirmation to be held in the new brick church. As was the custom, the confirmands were required to undergo a verbal examination, answering questions from the Catechism, before the entire congregation. This was done at the worship service on the previous Sunday, March 12, 1940. The confirmands all had to "pass" this exam in order to become confirmed members of St. Luke's the next week. Confirmation in the Gymnasium (Founders Hall), April 4, 1993
The 1993 Confirmation Class assembled in front of the "stained glass" display created by Ruth Wiedenmann for the east wall of Founders Hall(gymnasium), where the confirmation service was held. The 1957 church had already been demolished and the new sanctuary was under construction. For a period of almost 3 years, all worship services and special commemorations were held in the gym. Confirmation of Ferdinand Duda, Lakewood, OH. July 22, 1923
The Confirmation Class of Pentecost Lutheran Church, Lakewood, OH, on July 22, 1923. Ferdinand Duda, son of Andrew Duda, Sr. (founding family of Slavia and St. Luke's Church) is shown on far left in back row. The Andrew Duda Family helped to found St. Luke's in 1912 and purchased farmland through the Slavia Land Company in 1911, But they returned to Ohio from 1916-26 to earn more money to capitalize their future business in FL. During that period, they lived in Lakewood, OH and attended their old church (Holy Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church in Cleveland) until a new congregation in Lakewood was formed. Ferdinand was the youngest child of Andrew and Katarina Duda. He was born in Europe (Slovakia), April 22, 1909 and died in Slavia on September 17, 1996.

Officiant: Rev. Stephen Tuhy. The Stankos were one of the Founding Families of Slavia and built a store and gas station to serve the Slavia community in 1926. Marian grew up in the home attached to that store and served St. Luke's School as a teacher before marrying Rev. John Obeda. Jennie ultimately married Mr. Hugh Cotton. Members of the Cotton family still play active roles in St. Luke's congregation.
