Description/Abstract

This presentation focuses on how undergraduate research, academic and transfer advisement collectively create a robust framework that fosters students' academic success and career readiness. The mentor is essential in helping students navigate their research journey by providing a supportive research environment that cultivates critical thinking, scientific reasoning, problem solving skills, and resiliency. Our program demonstrates that setting clear objectives and milestones in combination with hands-on research allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, enhancing their research skills and confidence. We also underscore the importance of networking and professional development opportunities, such as participation in conferences, workshops, and membership in professional organizations, which broaden students' exposure to the research community and facilitate their professional growth. Moreover, this presentation will address the impact of recognition and rewards and financial support in motivating students and validating their efforts. Personalized support systems, including regular academic advising and peer support networks, will be highlighted as key components that further enrich their research experience.
