Description/Abstract

Research serves as a wonderful bridge to advance knowledge, motivation, and skills in undergraduate students. At UNF, we have redesigned a prerequisite course, BSC2012 Integrative Biology and Research Methods, to serve as an initiation into the research experience. The laboratory portion supports the NACE framework, emphasizing career readiness and essential laboratory skills and techniques in biotechnology. The lecture content is grounded in primary literature, connecting students’ general knowledge to more advanced applications. Our goal is to introduce students into research early in their college journey and propel them towards research labs and upper-level coursework with greater confidence. This presentation will provide a description of the course objectives, lesson examples, and assessments developed to gauge student progress.
