Description/Abstract
Peer mentorship offers significant benefits to both student mentors and mentees, many of which stem from longer-term relationships. Facilitating effective peer mentoring through undergraduate research offices can be challenging, as many students utilize these resources as brief steppingstones to begin their undergraduate research journeys. To increase long-term student engagement with our Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry, Florida Atlantic University is piloting a new two 5-week, discussion-based workshop series hosted by individual peer mentors. Each series targets either prospective or current undergraduate researchers, and walks students through either how to get started in research or how to leverage and advance their undergraduate research experience. This session will discuss the structure and framework of this program, as well as the observed and anticipated benefits.
