As a researcher of women and girls, Dr. M. C. Santana will share with us some of her findings about women in the workforce and the outlook for young women seeking promotion. She will discuss success stories of women leaving college, as well as the current situation of women in low paying jobs. In addition, she will share some of the difficulties for women and minorities moving past middle management in the US job market.

Biography

Dr. María Cristina (M. C.) Santana is the Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies program at the University of Central Florida. She is responsible for all curriculum changes, trainings, workshop support and community outreach for the program. Over the last 21 years, her research and experience in higher education has taken her to India, Brazil, Perú, Canada, Spain, Russia and Cuba among other countries. Dr. Santana is a champion for social justice and women’s rights. Her leadership has earned her multiple awards in Central Florida as well as abroad. She is an award-winning professor with four teaching awards in the last decade. Her Ph.D. on International Communication is from Temple University. She serves as Co-Chair of the International Task Force of the National Women’s Studies Association. Dr. Santana is a partner with the Farmworker Association of Florida of Woman to Woman, a one-day conference for women every spring. Dr. Santana is a certified salary negotiator with the American Association of University Women and a Speaker on Demand in Florida with the same organization.
