Lutheran Haven Jubilee Year-1998- Alpha Celebration
To celebrate the 50 years of ministry since the dedication of the first Home for the Aged and Children's Home in 1948, the Lutheran Haven planned a Jubilee Celebration which would unfold over the course of an entire calendar year. Jubilee Co-Chair, Judy Duda, traveled to the Cudahy, WI in June, 1997, to enlist the support of the delegates of the SELC-District of the LC-MS in encouraging all SELC congregations to participate in the Jubilee celebration. On February 1, 1998, the "Alpha" worship service was celebrated at St. Luke's, with the participation of many SELC and FL-GA district pastors. The service began with a stunning procession of banners produced and contributed by SELC congregations from many states. Events and several projects involving the residents of the Lutheran Haven were planned for every month of the Jubilee year. One project, a handmade "memory quilt," crafted by Haven residents, took many months to complete. It was designed by Karen Jacobs, a generous community volunteer, who offered her services to guide the project.
