Abstract
When presented with the following prevailing sentiment: “These days there’s this dystopia and that dystopia, which one are we going to get?” The Time Travel Agency proposes that neither, and instead, offers DATTOPIAS.
DATTOPIAS are uncommon, alternative narratives that fall in the spectrum that is the Future. Occupying the space between dystopias and utopias, these narratives offer futures of our making that are realistic, hopeful, and optimistic. Dattopias want to show us the everyday of the human experience and the ways in which society has adapted to overcome challenges.
Our studio is a response to hopelessness about the future. We aim to reach futures in which people possess agency and feel happy to be alive; and stories are always the point of departure– the more interactive and polyphonic, the better.
We are using the concept of DATTOPIAS to explore networked narratives, netprov games, e-lit, and speculative design. Always seeing our beloved Internet as a platform of community and computational creativity, our aim is to lead a very interactive session where we make some Dattopias together and then take a peek into their tooling (platforms), narrative design (worldbuilding, scenario design), and output (e-lit).
What if collective computational creativity was another door to the futuremaking of hopeful futures?
The Time Travel Agency plans to keep the netprov created in ELO alive for the rest of 2024 by bringing it to other interventions!

Bio
The Time Travel Agency operates under the cover of a speculative design and innovation studio in the Nordics, the Americas, and online.
We challenge a lack of optimistic futures, of vision, of other worlds. Then, we make those worlds to feel what it’s like to affect them. (And work from the assumption that we are going to make it).
Working against a view that the future is singular and binary (i.e. utopic or dystopic), we elevate the work of our travelers, who sustain that the futures are plural; that they exist in a spectrum; and that possible, optimistic futures start by imagining them in safe, explorative, experimental spaces.
