Description/Abstract

Undergraduate research programs depend on communication among students, mentors, and program staff, but keeping everyone connected and organized can be a challenge. Important forms, deadlines, and resources can easily become lost in a web of emails. Meanwhile, program staff need ways to efficiently communicate with different research groups, and mentors may lack the time to create polished resources. Our solution? Use tools we already have! This presentation will share how we use our institution’s learning management system (LMS), with support from generative AI, to create a more organized and welcoming undergraduate research experience at no additional cost. LMS features such as groups and tags allow us to organize participants and target communication, while AI-assisted HTML helps transform existing information into clear, visually engaging resources without requiring coding expertise. These changes reduce administrative headaches, make information easier to find, and improve communication among students, mentors, and program staff. Attendees will leave with practical strategies they can adapt within their own LMS, without purchasing new software or giving students and faculty one more platform to navigate.
