Description/Abstract
The use of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) tools by undergraduates is a well-documented phenomenon, with studies showing adoption rates by undergraduate students as high as 85% (Flaherty, 2025), often without regard for academic integrity norms such as source attribution and ethical data collection. This IRB-approved study examines filed academic integrity violations at a single institution from 2020-2025, covering five semesters prior to the public release of ChatGPT and five semesters after its release, in order to uncover trends related to genAI adoption and provide insights for faculty and administrators of undergraduate research programs.
