Learning Objectives
- Deepen understanding of AI’s use in chemistry;
- Learn to design two communicative formats (i.e., ignite talks and video podcasts);
- Develop diverse skills and capabilities (collaboration, critical thinking, visual literacy, intercultural communication, public speaking, creativity, AI literacy etc.);
- Prepare for AI-driven workforce (greater employment is guaranteed for those who are able to use AI and are better than AI);
- Enhance language proficiency (spoken production, written production and mediation);
- Build new vocabulary;
- Help others to deepen their understanding of AI’s use in chemistry.
Strategy Description
"AI & Chemistry" is a four-week language-learning project based on the action-oriented approach. The project asks students to complete two main tasks: prepare an individual Ignite talk and a partnered podcast on any subtopic related to the use of AI in chemistry. Beyond language skills, the project additionally aims to encourage students’ collaboration with AI-powered tools and enhance their AI literacy. All project steps are detailed in an additional PDF file. The integration of the project is not restricted to a language course; it can be adapted for any university-level communicative course.

Comments
The LLM tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemin)i were used to generate suggestions for several components of the project:
Questions related to the format of ignite talks/presentations.
Discussion questions about the content of the article “Twenty ways AI is advancing chemistry."
The Glow/Grow/Question framework for providing feedback on Ignite talks.
Questions for discussing the format of a video podcast.
Aspects and criteria for considering the quality of a video podcast.
No initial prompts or outputs were saved. The outputs from all LLMs were combined and further edited by the author of this project.
