St. Luke's Lutheran School- 2001
After more than 50 years of serving the children of St. Luke's members and the larger community, St. Luke's Lutheran School moved to a new two-story building during the 2001-02 school year. The structure stands immediately to the east of the church facility. In 1947, the school (with one teacher and 12 students) operated in the small wood structure once used as a church. The first permanent school building, erected in 1949 and expanded several times in the decades following, was preserved for use in other St. Luke's ministries and programs

St. Luke's original "turpentine shack church:" Then and Now, 1934
A 2015 digital image shows the original "turpentine shack" church (restored to its original size and moved back to the cemetery property in the 1990s). This structure is now used for small funerals in the cemetery and is a treasured memento of the congregation's early history. But the little wood church does NOT sit on exactly the same site as it did until 1934 (when it was moved to the new church property and re-purposed for use as St. Luke's first schoolhouse). During the next 60 years, prior to the building's restoration, many graves had been placed on the land where it originally resided, so the structure was placed in a newer area of the cemetery land. An iconic photo, taken in 1934, shows the wood church on its original plot and also shows the first two gravesites placed in the cemetery (in 1933 and 1934). The 2015 digital image of the little church is taken from a different vantage point, but captures the lines and style of the original structure

St. Luke's School Auditorium: Then and Now, 1947
An important feature of the first permanent school built by St. Luke's in 1947 was an auditorium. The stage was used for many plays produced by members of the congregation, as well as for school performances. The open space was used for wedding receptions and other gatherings and later became the site of the school library. After the construction of a large new school in 2000, the former auditorium was used for Shepherd's Hope medical ministry, for Lutheran Counseling Services and other purposes. In 2010, St. Luke's moved its rapidly-growing Pre-K program into the original school building and further modified the former auditorium for office and lobby space. A 2015 digital image shows the entry area in its most current emanation.
