The learning objective for this assignment is:
To introduce students to how artificial intelligence depicts cultural nuances by reinforcing cultural bias through national stereotypes.
This assignment helps fulfil the following course learning objectives: At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
• Recognize and present clear descriptions of culture’s ability to shape and modify perceptions, attitudes, beliefs, values, and communication (verbal and non-verbal) in both general instances and specific contexts, e.g., business and educational settings.
• Understand and apply intercultural communication theories and research to daily life.
• Evaluate real-world intercultural problems, defend your analysis, and justify your solutions with clear logic and appropriate empirical evidence.
• Improve your intercultural communication skills.
• Complete these objectives without bias, value judgments, or generalizations.
Strategy Description
This lesson was used in my Intercultural Communication class as a way to introduce students to artificial intelligence’s nuances when it comes to treating and discussing other nationalities. Students were given the opportunity to ask Copilot to generate an image of a typical person from a country they are familiar with. These images were then discussed in class.
